Another day in the office

Peter & I Underwater.
Hello again everyone, I'm back.

So today diving has been cancelled due to weather
conditions. I thought i would give a quick update.

Peter finished his Divemaster exam today, he got a final overall score of 96%, a very respectable score might i add.

We have spent most of the day doing shop work, repairing equipment, paperwork, administration stuff, checking stock etc. Basic shop stuff really.

Might be bad weather for introductions but not for a hardened scotsman like myself..

Peter - "Iain, there is only 5 meter vis...."
Iain   - "Thats 4 more than i need"

And off we go! It was a truly epic dive.  Brings me back to my days with Aquatron down at Loch Long.

So i have tomorrow off so i might go exploring, we will see. Back to cleaning. Byeeeeee

So I Really Forgot About This..

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posts. I totally forgot about this Blog. BUUUUTTT

Its time to make up for it!

So whats new, well. I am currently working in Greece at Dive Creta Maris, a dive center based in the very busy are of Herssonisos - Crete. I have been here since May 1st and i leave on October 23rd. So far its been a very educational journey for me.

Meet The Team
I have two new Dive master Interns, well. I Did, they are pretty much finished now, i only need to do a few more things and they are ready to go. Its been a strange season here, busy, slow, busy, slow. Its very unpredictable.

The Parents and I

My lovely father and mother came to visit me when i first arrived, i think they realized i was rather homesick - when i left Tenerife i was home for a few months. My father got me an Underwater Camera for my Birthday, but unfortunately. It has broken. (due to no fault of my own)

So i am still working as a Diving Instructor in awesomely warm places. I recently got my Upgrade to MSDT as well - so i am very happy about that.

Well, thats all i have time for right now. Until the next time interweb.

A Much Needed Update

Well hello again everyone.

I forgot to update this blogger mcjobber thingy so im going to do a bunch of it now.

My Divemaster intern and I hopped into the pool and done both a DSD and a Scuba Review, woop woop!
Both of those were really good, Sam done very well hitting all the points he needed to and getting another two things ticked off his to do list. Hmmm, what else have we done. A-ha! We have also completed his Kit Exchange. Sam and Neil done the exercise together and i have to say i was very impressed. Sam scored a very good five!

I am currently planning the rest of the week to get more of the tasks done so we can finish him for the 26th. (thats the plan anyway)

However, despite all of this hard work we have had the weeked off to have some fun! As it was St Patricks day yesterday we all got out diving bums down to C & A's bar and bistro and had a nice night out. A few drinks and alot of laughs later me and some of the other Divemasters went out in the town for a party (why not ay)

So, Thats a brief catch-up of what i have been up to other the last few days.

Catch ya later!

Well well well it's DSD Monday!

Well Hello there!

8 am! Bright and early getting ready for dive life that starts at 9(ish)

I had 2 DSD's today, well. After the Medical Form was completed i had one DSD...B.ut thats just the way it goes i guess. So, Me and Andy, Andy and I went in the pool and cracked on with the skills. He is very confident in the water, all of the skills were awesome, i was so chuffed - he seemed to be too.

After a brief session in the pool we went out to Open Water - The House Reef. It was a rather strange day on the reef, lots of life. But terrible vis. However, despite this Andy and I cracked on and made the most of it.

All and all it was a good dive!

I also learned some new french from our new Dive Master Intern Manon, Woop Woop!

Cya later everyone!

A Quick update of the last few days.

Well hello again everyone!

I have been quite busy the last few days at the dive center, Sam and i jumped into the pool and done a scuba review to see how his skills are - which are very good may i say. I have been busy with guiding dives this morning i went on a dive on the house reef with Robert (a client in the dive center) he is from Aberdeen so we had a nice little chat about cold water diving and about the lovely piece of kit that is, Drysuits.

We have Welcomed a new Dive Master Intern to Amarilla Divers aswell, her name is Manon and she is from France. (i will be attempting to improve on my french by asking her loooaaaaadssss of questions, haha)

I have had some good news awsell. I applied for a job as a Instructor in Honduras last month and they got back to me today telling me i was accepted, so i am very happy about that. I am currently looking at flights to Utila now.

They work in conjunction with Operation Wallacea, my duties will be Instructing, Guiding and conducting Underwater Clean-ups. It turns out that an 18 year old instructor can get hired in this big world of diving!! xD, Truth be told i was getting alittle disheartened by the rejections i have been getting, but this response really has been the highlight of the last few months =].

Check em out people!

My Most Educational And Nervous Day Ever!

Hello World!

Well, i woke up today and i have to say. I was really excited. Today i done my first Rescue Diver Course.

I spent a day before planning out how i would do it, but once the moment came, well... Yeah. That plan didnt work to its expected degree. I was really nervous when i got in the pool, i tried not to let it show, but i think it did shine through quite a bit.

In the pool with me I had my two students Sam DMI (Dive Master Intern) and David, a 15 year old who came in to do his course. Also with them was some helpers ("Victims") : Mary ,(my boss) Melinda, (my boss's daughter) Andy and Dannii (DMI)

I have to say i has to be the most nerve wracking thing i have done in a while, but i had so much fun. For me doing my  Rescue Diver Course was my most benficial and favoured course, i remember my Instructor Ally (Back in Glasgow) teaching my, i kind of molded both my current boss's style with his. It seemed to work well. There was a few times when i asked my boss for help, which is okay, i am never shy to ask when i need it. But i think she understood it was new to me, She is lovely though.

So, after all the splashing and atacking of rescuers who got that little bit too close (Much to Melinda's delight) the pool session was over. Bang on!

From here we all made our way back to the Dive Resort were "Not The Boss" was getting ready for a boat dive. I thought to myself, great. I can just sit down and chill out and collect myself. Then ofcoure, i get my next course. My first EF|R course! I was still nervous from the rescue diver course and i had began doing the EFR with trembling hands. So, i composed myself and cracked on.

I have to say, i was dredding today... But i can honestly say this day has been one of my funnest days in my diving career so far. And i can't wait until the next one. Thank you "
Boss" and "Not The Boss" for one of my favourite days with Amarilla Divers - even if i didnt say it to you. Its been ... Educational.

Advanced Course and Scuba Diver!!

Well Howdy Yal!

So, i have had a busy day! I was up at 8:15 awoken to a really cold morning! Its Tenerife, and its cold! Its just not fair.. However, i was struck by a beautiful sight as i walked out my front door. A perfect view of the mountain covered in snow! It was amazing.
I was in the Dive Center for 9 and i was straight back into the Scuba Diver course, (which i strarted yesterday) OW Dive 2 on the House reef, Bang on! Everything was ace, skills were good, nice life. Some beautiful Cuttlefish, Octopus and Blue Damsels... Usual suspects really.
Got out and finished off the rest of the paperwork, got a photo and boom, Jobs a good'un!

Sam got his Advanced Open Water Course done, so he is now Advanced trained. So yeah, He got his temp card today with a epic photo, he looks like a Llama... just sayin'.
Oooh! Last night i done a Night Dive on the Wall, it was really nice, a bit cold but nice. Sam, Dannii, ( the other Dive Master Intern) Mark and I all went out. Vis was okay, life was good and there was a nice bit of banter afterwards, chilled out in the shop after.

Went out for a drive with Dannii and Sam down to Los Cristianos we walked along the beach, watched the sun set.. jumped in holes... (Yeah, i'll back up there) We actually did.. dont believe me?

Hey, here's me... - - >

Yeah... That actually happened.

I can't think of anything else to add now, thats pretty much you could up on my life over the last few days.

Oh! I have a cold now, so my ears are playing up, might not be able to dive for a while :/ Sad times..

Until the next time everyone,

I would like to apologise for the weird paragraph lay out, it wont let me edit it, sorry.

Hello again world!

Well howdy partner!

Well, i have had a good day today. Finished at the bar around half 1 last night and was home for 2am.
I hope up to my flatmate watching TV, so. I attempted to wake up, but it just wasnt happening. as 8:30 rang on around i finally got out of bed. Why is it that beds are always so much more comfy when you wake up? Why i say! Its just not fair.

My students arrived at the dive center for half 9-ish and i began briefing the Discover Scuba Diver.
After that i then done a try dive in the pool with a girl who wanted to try diving, she liked it so much she said she would do the DSD next time she was back - which is cool :)

It was cool, i had my Dive Master Intern Sam in the pool with me watching and noting my control of the student. He is doing well, i think he is going to make a good Dive Master.

Oh, And Happy Valentines Day to my awesome friend back home  :) - - - - - ->

Well, thats pretty much what i have done today, im going to go home now before i need to go to work in the bar.

Hello all.

Well, as you can guess from the title i had a 9am start. Because its the weekend i work start work at 12 in my other job. SO! I was up at 8 and stumbling around trying to wake up. I had pancakes for breakfast though, that was ace.

I got into the Dive resort for about 8.40 (ish) from here i just sat down and relaxed. when 9 hit i began preparing paperwork for the new diver. - Oh, i forgot to say that, im doing an Advanced Course. Went down on the house reef for the Navigation dive with my student and my Dive Master Intern - Sam, it was the most beautiful i have seen the house reef, Low tide, 30m vis.. 19 degrees.. (rather cold) was just amazing. Just flat calm.. it was awesome.

When i finished the nav dive i began getting ready for my other job, i was out the water at 11:45 and in the bar for 12, i felt like Clark Kent turning into Superman, into the changing room and BOOM! out in a brand new costume.. I am rather tired, but it was an amazing was to start the day.

This is me by the way

Introducing me....

Im back again!

Hey there dudes and dudettes.

Well, a few things have changed since my last update.

I am now doing a  Open Water straight through to Dive Master course, so im pretty excited... (and nervous)
Im currently almost finished the advanced, just got to do Photography and Wreck and it will be finished.

The guy im doing the courses for - called Sam. Believe it or not is also my room mate, and I have to say, he is pretty awesome. Turns out aswell that he lives actually quite close to me! AND, he is friends with some of my friends, Small world ay!

Im currently in the dive resort with "The Boss" i'm pretty sure she is doing somthing important, its gone real quiet, so I think she may be defusing a bomb... or playing Soduko..

Im not entirly sure how i am going to use this blog, I intend just to update every week on what has happened to me or mabye some cool things that have taken place underwater, yeah, it will be a suprise! every post hopefully will be interesting, I hope.

I am going to give one of the manyreasons why I like diving in tenerife.. Infact, I will sum it up with the aid of some graphics!

< -Back Home - Warm Tenerife. - >

Don't worry, im not as platic as the photo on the right  makes me seem, im actually rather human.

So im pretty blogged out now, i will attempt another blog at some stage when i have more to tell.

Well, Its my first day blogging!

Well, it has took me about twenty minutes to get this bloody thing to let me use it.

Let me start of my blog with "My story"

I am an eighteen year old male living in Tenerife - yes, you have read that correctly. No, i do not speak fluent spanish, i barely speak working spanish, so my day to day conversations occur with myself.

By day i am a Scuba diver and by night i am a barman. I want you to know i am not starting this to whine about how my life is so difficult or to gossip about all the random people i have met during my time here, instead i am just going to write down my experiences as they come and let you, well. anyone read about them, sounds rather fun ay?

I wasnt born in Tenerife, i am actually from Scotland, and little place called Dumfries and Galloway. I am not going to get into specific locations incase there is any weird people reading, not to be mean, but hey, its a big bad world out there.

I came to Tenerife in June to persue my dream of being a diver, and well. i can tell you know that i have completed that dream, to a large extent. To the best of my Knowledge i am the youngest Master Scuba Diver Trainer in Tenerife - that i know of. I am based in Amarilla Golf in a nice family run dive resort and i have to say lifes just peachy.

I will give you a sneak picket into my life on a daily basis.

7:45 - alarm goes off - i attempt to wake up
7:55 - secondary alarm goes off - because i slept in.
8:00 - Stumble into the shower
8:07 - have a cup of tea
8:15 - get dressed for work, Shorts and work shirt
8:20 - out the door and walking to work
8:30 - Open up the dive center

as you can tell, i am a little OCD. I find it easer to work with timings, it makes things. well.. easier.

Now, as the dive center is a "Fluid and Dynamic" Company, my routines pretty much get screwed at this point.

from 9-5 anything can happen, i can be doing DSD's, or Open/Advanced Courses, cleaning the shop, helping customers, working the pools, checking emails or the best bit, having a laugh the the team.

Oh, i didn't meantion them. I am a member of a team of 7 people!

from here (5pm) i walk home and begin my 2 hours of relaxation before my next job. from 8pm- 2am i am a barman - Yeah, try working my hours mate. - i look like a zombie, feel like a zombie, to be honest.. im a zombie. My Boss, well. for Privacy sakes, lets call him "Not The Boss" says i shouldnt "Burn The Candle At Both Ends" but to be honest, i need the money and when im not working, im at my flat watching realllllyyy bad television series. - well, i am sort of getting into the Mentalist now, so its alllll good. But in a way its just a Psych spin off but serious, almost a carbon copy.

I am completly indipendant, i take my life day to day and like it that way. Whenever i think about the big picture it all goes crazy, my mind begins to haze and i loose all the moral fibers i have left. I mean, i'm 18. I dont need to think about the big picture, yet...

I live of cheese and ham toasties, i just never get bored of them, they are so god damn tasty, its like a taste explostion of tastyness.

Oh yeah, i'll say this now. My spelling is horrendous, so i'm sorry about that, or as most the the annoying people my age say, "Soz"

Well, i'm both mentally drained and bored, so i am going to cut this off now.
